Mismatch, made intentional
Program: Retail store
Client: Aprilpoolday
Size: 201 Sq.m.
Scope: Partial Architectural Design and Interior Design for the existing shophouse.
The Phuket shophouse—an old Sino-Portuguese structure with a deep layout and two courtyards—has been transformed into Aprilpoolday’s second branch. While the substantial original façade is preserved, new glazing and an atrium with skylight brighten the entire frontage, creating depth and visual intrigue.
Inside, the ground floor becomes one fluid space divided into three experiences: a display zone, a social waiting corner with drinks and ice cream, and a fitting area with five pods and a large mirror wall.
The design embraces intentional mismatching. Each zone acts as its own “stage,” featuring playful, unexpected elements: a door-turned-mirror, a sunken bath platform, a mosaic-clad room echoing European bathrooms, hanging umbrellas, floral sinks, and chandeliers—common objects placed in uncommon contexts.
Existing terrazzo, polished concrete, aged masonry and upper timber floor & roofs are kept to preserve the building’s history, while new skylights and windows enliven the courtyards and ensure true product color.
The result blends Aprilpoolday’s eclectic identity with architectural heritage, creating a unique and memorable retail experience.
