Scope: Architectural & Landscape Design
Mindfulness Village is envisioned as a sanctuary for those seeking refuge and inner peace. Designed to support both day visits and extended stays, the compound facilitates immersive meditation practices within a thoughtfully crafted environment.
A diagonal approach bridge introduces an unconventional entry, offering a fresh visual perspective of the village. This vantage point allows visitors to take in the entire compound at once. Unlike the traditional central axis approach, which often divides a facade symmetrically, this diagonal path preserves the integrity of the building fronts, while enhancing visual interest. A series of curved roofs blends seamlessly with the mountainous backdrop, creating a harmonious dialogue between architecture and landscape.
Within the village, meditators are encouraged to remain present—engaging their eyes, ears, body, and mind as they navigate the environment. The compound’s topography is gently undulating, inviting mindful movement and contemplation.
The architecture draws inspiration from Asian tropical vernacular, expressed through simple shapes and organic forms. A standout element is the central building, which reinterprets traditional design with an exaggeratedly steep, ultra-pointed gable roof. This bold form contrasts with the surrounding rooflines, establishing a visual anchor in the village composition.
Materials were chosen for their authenticity and subdued character: locally made ceramic shingles, timber, and fair-face concrete contribute to a muted, humble aesthetic—reinforcing the village’s ethos of simplicity and stillness.
